Boston College Summer Stacks+Joules Cohort

We had the great privilege to work with the Lynch School of Education at Boston College as they held their summer intensive Urban Outreach College Bound program. College Bound is a pre-collegiate enrichment and support program offered to a diverse group of 50-60 students from three Boston Public High Schools: West Roxbury Academy, Brighton High School, and Urban Science Academy. The mission of the College Bound Program is to empower students to become positive change agents in their schools and communities. Stacks+Joules served as a foundational class in coding, social justice and energy efficiency. Working with the class of 20 students Mike and Jon taught a 4 day workshop around the LED light bulb curriculum.

The students had their genius on full display as they coded up their light shows for the final day.  Students selected their own music to choreograph their lights. With some light editing for content, these songs served as the perfect creative inspiration. Programming time, intensity and color to syncopate rhythmically with their song - the students used their newly uncovered Python programming skills to write up a light show.
